Junior quarterback Brett Smith notched a record-breaking day while leading the University of Wyoming football team to a 42-10 victory over Idaho on Saturday afternoon in front of 22,030 fans at War Memorial Stadium. Smith guided the Cowboys (1-1) to 42 unanswered points in the second and third quarters, while the UW defense held the Vandals (0-2) off the scoreboard until midway through the fourth quarter.
Chaundra Sewell scored 22 points, Ashley Sickles had 17 points and Kayla Woodward added 14 points, as the Wyoming Cowgirls rolled past the Idaho Vandals 86-53 in the season opener for both teams at the Arena-Auditorium Friday night. UW shot 50.8 percent from the field and held Idaho to 28.8 percent from the floor.
What a difference one player makes for the Wyoming Cowboys. After missing the last game, Sophomore Quarterback Brett Smith was back in the line-up Saturday at Idaho. He threw a career-high five touchdown passes, including the game-winning 25-yard strike to Jalen Claiborne, as the Pokes won their first game of the 2012 season, 40-to-37, in overtime over the Vandals in Moscow, Idaho.
