"It was a good night, we haven't won seven matches in a dual all year so that was encouraging to see. We don't like to be in those close matches but our guys stepped up and did a good job of closing those matches out," UW head wrestling coach Mark Branch said. "Stephen looked great tonight, he trains and competes with ferocity and right now the sky is the limit for him."

Job Greenwood got things going for Wyoming against Garrett Lautzenheiser at 133 pounds. Greenwood opened the match strong scoring an early first period takedown. After Lautzenheiser scored two escapes the match would be tied 2-2 heading to the third period. In the third, Greenwood scored an escape and received stalling point to hang on for the 4-2 victory.

At 141 pounds, it would be another close match as Darren Green faced off against Caleb Rea. Green started strong scoring the only takedown of the match in the first period. After adding a second period escape Green held on for a gritty 3-2 win over Rea.

Jaron Jensen kept the trend of close matches going at 149 pounds in his match against Jeff Boyd. For the third match in a row, the lone takedown came from a Cowboy. Jensen picked up a first period takedown and then displayed stingy defense on his way to the 3-1 victory.

No. 15 ranked Jacob Wright was able to open things up a little more at 157 pounds against Alex Hornfeck. The match started slow with the only points in the first two periods coming from a Wright reversal. Leading 2-0 to start the third period, Wright went to work scoring two takedowns and securing the 7-2 win over Hornfeck.

At 174 pounds No. 12 ranked Hayden Hastings went up against Dennis Robin and put the Cowboys back in the win column. Hastings made the most of a scramble position in the first period putting Robin in danger and picking up a takedown. Hastings added an escape in the third period to seal the 3-0 shutout victory.

The first bonus point win of the evening came from No. 15 ranked Tate Samuelson at 184 pounds. Samuelson put on a dominant display against Anthony Carman opening the match with a reversal and controlling Carman on top. Samuelson added a couple of late takedowns for the. 9-1 major decision victory.

It was a quick night at the office for No. 2 ranked Stephen Buchanan as he faced off against Jackson Moomau. Buchanan picked up two quick first period takedowns before catching Moomau in a cradle pinning him for his sixth straight win.

The Cowboys will now get a chance to rest having a two week break to prepare for the post season which begins with the Big 12 Championships March 5-6 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
