Wyoming’s Driver License System Getting A Much-Needed Upgrade
There's nothing more exciting for a teenager than getting their license. It's one of those milestone moments you can't wait to reach. You'll be so excited that you'll be the first person in line when you're eligible to get yours.
On the other hand, when you've had your license long enough that you have to get it renewed, you'll put it off as long as you can.
If you're in either of those situations this week, the Wyoming Department of Transportation has made an announcement that will impact your scheduling.
Driver Service Offices statewide will close 30 minutes early on October 16 and remain closed through Monday, October 20.
They will be installing new software and perform data conversion. Driver Services Manager, Misty Zimmerman, says, even though the offices are closed, they will still be working.
Although all locations will be closed, employees will be working on the software installation and data migration process. Some employees will even be working through the weekend to minimize the amount of time the offices had to be closed to the public.
This major milestone marks the retirement of the current driver license software system, RIS, after almost 40 years as well as ushers in this new system after years of extensive planning and effort by WYDOT, our modernization vendor and ETS.”
Even though the offices will be closed statewide, law enforcement will still be able to access driver information, so this isn't a "Get out of jail free" moment.
