We all know that Wyoming is a melting pot of people, from all different parts of the world and all different walks of life.

When you dive a little deeper into the people that make up Wyoming, you may (or may not be) surprised that many of the top 10 surnames are the same as many other states in the U.S.

I found the website American Surnames.US and thought I would do some digging to find which names are most common around these parts.

If you do some exploring on the site, you're going to quickly see the name Smith is the most common surname in the United States, and has been since at least 1880. The second most popular surname is Johnson, which has also been #2 on the list since 1880.

When I started looking, I got curious of some of the states surrounding Wyoming, I found that Smith and Johnson are within the Top 5 of Wyoming, Montana, South Dakota, Nebraska and Colorado. Not surprising when you know those names are the most popular in the country.

Take a look at the Top 10 surnames in Wyoming and information on each from American Surnames.us
