Lucia Morelli leads Cowgirl golf at Silicon Valley Showcase

MILLBRAE, Calif. – Lucia Morelli was a bright spot during a long day for Cowgirl golf at the Silicon Valley Showcase on the par-71, 6,084-yard Green Hills Country Club.

The talented Wyoming freshman opened the 54-hole tournament with a 1-under 70 in the first round and shot a 78 in the second round, which has Morelli tied for 23rd on the individual leaderboard at 6-over.

UW finished Monday's 36-hole grind with a team score of 611 (+43). Senior Kyla Wilde (+9) shot 73 to pace the Cowgirls in the second round.

Kansas State leads the nine-team field at even par (568). Pepperdine's Lauren Gomez (-4) is alone in first place in the race for the individual medal.

After Tuesday's final round in the Bay Area, UW will host the Cowgirl Classic April 2-3 in Maricopa, Ariz.

During the summer of 2021, 7220Sports.com counted down the Top 50 football players in University of Wyoming history, presented by Premier Bone & Joint Centers, Worthy of Wyoming.

The rules are simple: What was the player's impact while in Laramie? That means NFL stats, draft status or any other accolade earned outside of UW is irrelevant when it comes to this list.

This isn't a one-man job. This task called for a panel of experts. Joining 7220's Cody Tucker are Robert Gagliardi, Jared Newland, Ryan Thorburn, and Kevin McKinney.
