RANCHO MIRAGE, Calif., – The Wyoming Cowgirl golf squad continued play at the Mountain West Championships on Wednesday completing the second round of action at the Mission Hills Golf Club.

Following an impressive second round, Jadan Gonzalez leads the way for the Cowgirls currently sitting in a tie for fifth while a total of three Cowgirls sit inside the top 25.

“It was a pretty solid day for us, especially when you consider how difficult the conditions were through our first nine,” UW head women’s golf coach Josey Stender said. “Sam had a great comeback today and I’m so excited for Jadan to have another competitive day and put herself in contention tomorrow.”

After shooting two under par in the first round, Gonzalez was the model of consistency in round two carding 14 pars on her way to shooting a 72 (E) and closing out the day tied for fifth with a total score of 142 (-2). Gonzalez currently sits ahead of SJSU’s No. 65 ranked Lucia Lopez-Ortega while also being in the mix with multiple athletes ranked in the top 100 with round left to play.

Meghan Vogt kept herself in the top 25 after shooting a 75 (+3) in the second round closing the day tied for 22nd with a total score of 128 (+4). Morgan Ryan ended the second round just behind Vogt, sitting in a tie for 25th with a score of 149 (+5). Samantha Hui bounced back in the second round shooting a 74 (+2) finishing the day tied for 39th, five spots higher than where she was at the start of the round.

Subbing into the lineup after not playing the first round, Sophie Spiva shot an 83 (+11) on the day finishing the round in 45th.

After two rounds, the Cowgirls sit in seventh in the team standings with a score of 594 (+18) and are currently on pace to have their best team score at the Mission Hills Golf Club in program history.

The Cowgirls will enter the third round of play trialing sixth place Boise State by just two strokes. No. 8 rankled San Jose State currently leads the tame race with a score of 569 (-7) while No. 43 ranked New Mexico sits in second with a score of 573 (-3).

The Cowgirls will wrap up the Mountain West Championships tomorrow with the final round of play set to tee off at 8 a.m. MT.
