Day 1 Journal From The NCAA Tournament In Denver
Oh to be a part of the media! With great seats and "backstage access," it's a wonderful time to be covering something I love, the NCAA Men's Basketball Championships. Check things out over the next few days, as I bring you an inside look at what goes on behind the scenes at one of the biggest events each year in sports.
Day one was filled with practices by the eight teams participating at the site, the Pepsi Center in Denver. Then a round of interviews that featured two players and the coach of the teams. The questions varied from the most simple to the most bizarre.
Of course, one could imagine that the "Jimmer" show was the most popular, and it was. I think he fielded questions for about 25 minutes. One of the most interesting comparisons has come from the Denver media. Looking at the similarities of Jimmer Fredette and Tim Tebow.
Other than that, it was a pretty simple day, with a decent amount of fans that showed up to see the practices for free. As you would think, BYU did draw the most attention. Hey, they are the highest seed here.
Well, that's it for day one, but plenty more to come as the action tips-off in a short time.
First up is #4Louisville against #13 Morehead State, followed #5 Vanderbilt versus #12 Richmond. The night session has #3 BYU going against #14 Wofford. The nightcap should be a dandy with #6 seed St. John's taking on #11 Gonzaga.
Basketball jones have certainly hit me.
