CODY, Wyo. (AP) — Authorities in Wyoming have launched a homicide investigation after a body was found in a remote area of Park County.

Park County Sheriff's Office spokesman Lance Mathess said yesterday that the body was found on federal land along Little Sand Coulee Road west of Powell.

The county 911 center received the first report of the body just before noon. No name was released, and Mathess declined to say if the victim was a male or female.

Sand Coulee Road was closed to traffic as investigators worked the scene. The area roughly ten miles south of the Montana border is under the jurisdiction of the federal Bureau of Land Management.

The investigation is being handled by Park County deputies and agents from the BLM and Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation.
