YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK, Wyo. (AP) — The National Park Service plans to hold a series of public meetings to get comment on its proposal to increase the number of snowmobiles and other snow-machines allowed into Yellowstone National Park.

Yellowstone spokesmen have emphasized that despite proposing to allow more snow machines into the park, they believe that new pollution and noise control requirements on the machines should curtail the environmental effects.

Four public meetings, each starting at 6:30 p.m., have been set in communities surrounding the park:

— Mon., July 16 at The Virginian Lodge in Jackson.

— Tues., July 17 at the Holiday Inn in West Yellowstone, Mont.

— Wed., July 18 at the Wingate by Wyndham in Bozeman, Mont.

— Thurs., July 19 at the Holiday Inn in Cody.
