Growing up in the tiny town of Boulder, Wyoming, Tom Johnston learned a lot about snow. The Cowboy State native will be in charge of grooming the ski slopes at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea.

Johnston's journey to the Winter Olympics began in 1998, when was working at the Jackson Hole Resort. After being hired as a technical advisor for the Alpine Nationals, he was asked to groom courses for the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City and has since become one of the most foremost experts in the world.

Johnston also oversaw the courses for women's alpine events at the 2014 Sochi Games along with several World Cup races. In 2015, he prepared the course for the Alpine World Ski Championships in Beaver Creek, Colorado.

After the 1.8 mile course in South Korea is shaped and groomed in February, Johnston will go back to work on this cattle ranch.

"This job was always just to support my cow and my tractor habit. That's all," he told the AP in 2016.
