Wyoming National Guard Will Host Open House on Cheyenne Day

The Wyoming National Guard is opening its doors to the public on July 23, at the 153rd Airlift Wing's location on Dell Range Boulevard, in Cheyenne.

Only shuttle bus traffic will be allowed on to the base due to security and parking restrictions. Shuttle buses will leave continuously from the Frontier Mall's north side, between Dillard's and Sears, beginning at 8:30a.m. The last bus to the open house will leave at 2:15 p.m.

Pedestrian foot traffic and vehicles equipped with handicapped stickers will be allowed to enter through the front gate of the Wyoming Air National Guard base. Gates open at 8:30 a.m. and the open house ends at 3 p.m.

All visitors must bring a valid ID. No coolers, weapons-including pocket knives, or containers will be allowed on the base. Security personnel may search all bags.

"We wanted to offer the Cheyenne Frontier Days crowd a chance to see the capabilities of their Wyoming National Guard," said Maj. Gen. Luke Reiner, Wyoming's adjutant general.  "Community support is vital to our success; this is one way we can show our appreciation for that support."

According to a news release, people on base before 9:30 a.m. will be able to view the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds depart for their aerial performance over Laramie County Community College. The aerial show is not visible from the Guard base.

Wyoming National Guard equipment currently scheduled for display include:

.       C-130H "Hercules" aircraft equipped for various missions
.       UH-60A "Black Hawk"
.       C-12
.       Civil Air Patrol aircraft
.       Multi-roll Bridge Assembly
.       HIMARS (High Mobility Artillery Rocket System)

Activities offered include a bounce house for children, a night vision goggle tent and the Air National Guard Mobile Experience.
