The new year starts with 3 new #1's in the latest coaches/media rankings.

The school is still young compared to the others...but a new first has been achieved. The Cheyenne South Bison...9-0 and off to their best start ever...is the new #1 ranked 4A team. They will take their act on the road to Sweetwater County this weekend. #5 Rock Springs has them targeted on Saturday, but there's Friday business to deal with first (RS hosts Laramie and South is at Green River). Behind South, is their 2 Cheyenne rivals. Central is #2 and East is up to #3. Both the Indians and Thunderbirds will have their hands full this weekend, trying to contain Scottsbluff, Nebraska. Elsewhere, Gillette is back in action this weekend, as the #4 Camels tune up for conference play, against teams from Rapid City, South Dakota.

The 3A rankings are the hardest ones to figure out, because every team that was ranked last week, ended up losing. Depending on which team they lost to last week, some teams moved up and others moved down. Defending champ Buffalo moves up to the top spot. Douglas lost their first game of the season last week, however the Bearcats moved up to #2. Rawlins made the biggest move jumping in at #3, thanks largely to winning on the road against former #1, now #4 Star Valley. The Outlaws are one vote behind Douglas, and host the Bearcats on Friday. Worland drops one spot in the rankings to #5.

After missing out on the state tournament last year, the only undefeated team in the state is back in business. Wyoming Indian picked up 4 very big and impressive wins in the Big Horn Basin Tournament, and are on top of the 2A rankings. One of their wins was against former #1, now #2 Wind River, and the rematch is this week. The difference between the last meeting and this one, is that Friday's game is a conference affair. Meanwhile, Greybull drops 1 spot to #3, while Big Piney and Pine Bluffs hold steady at #4 and #5.

The was a little bit of movement in the latest 1A polls from last time, but not as much as the 3 other classes. Upton retains the #1 spot, while their conference rival Kaycee is up to #2. Encampment is up 1 spot as well to #3, while defending champ Burlington drop to #4. The Huskies visit the Buckaroos on Friday as both teams get ready for conference play. Finally, Meeteetse crack the top 5, at #5.
