The coaches and media have been able to determine the early season contenders in some classes, but more games need to be played in the others to figure out the rest.

4A still appears to be the toughest on to figure out. There's only 1 undefeated team (who hasn't played a 4A opponent yet), while a number of teams ended up beating each other last week in Casper. There's a tie on top with Cheyenne East and Laramie both ranked #1. The Thunderbirds will head to Colorado for their games this weekend. Meanwhile, the Plainsmen are off until just before the New Years' Holiday. Sheridan is down 1 spot to #3. Rock Springs and Evanston are new to the rankings at #4 and #5, and will be busy this weekend at the Flaming Gorge Classic.

The top 3 teams in 3A were all in Cody last weekend, and all impressed the voters. Rawlins is now on top, and beat #2 Cody to claim it. The Outlaws will have a big game on their hands Thursday at #4 4A Rock Springs. Buffalo got some attention as well, and the Bison check in at #3. They are on break until the last week of December. Defending champ Riverton is down to #4. They will join #5 Torrington in Douglas this weekend. The TrailBlazers will cross paths with the Broncs on Friday.

There's very little change in the new 2A rankings. Wind River, Pine Bluffs and Rocky Mountain hold steady at #1, #2 and #3. Wyoming Indian and Lovell share the #4 spot. The Bulldogs will play in Douglas this weekend vs. 3A competition, the Cougars and Chiefs will entertain teams from the 2A Northeast. R.M. won't be that far away playing at Shoshoni, while PB plays Thursday in Colorado.

1A didn't change much, but there's a big matchup this weekend for the top spot. #1 Burlington has yet to start their season, and they'll get a big test on Friday in Shoshoni vs. co-#2 Little Snake River. The Rattlers and Farson-Eden are tied for #2, and both will be at the Wrangler Invite this weekend. Elsewhere, #4 St. Stephens and #5 Encampment will be playing at Lingle.
