Another competitive season is ahead on the basketball court, and before the season starts, the coaches/media have voted on which teams they believe are the early season contenders.

4A could be up for grabs this season, as every team except for Jackson, received a vote. Cheyenne East claims the early #1 spot. The Thunderbirds will open the season against out of state opponents at Gillette. Sheridan is #2, defending champ Kelly Walsh is #3 and Laramie is #4. All 3 teams will open the season in Casper. Campbell County rounds out the top 5 at #5, and will start the season at home.

Defending champ Riverton will start their title defense as the #1 ranked team in 3A. The Wolverines will also be in Casper, to take on some 4A competition to start the season. #2 Rawlins, #4 Cody and #5 Worland will start their seasons at Cody against various opponents (Worland vs Cody is the first game), while #3 Torrington will only have 1 game to content with, at Chadron, Nebraska.

Wind River is the team to beat in 2A. The voters made the defending champs the unanimous #1 team. The Cougars will open up in Bridger Valley. #2 Pine Bluffs and #4 Wyoming Indian could be on an early season collision course to start the season at Burns. Elsewhere, #3 Rocky Mountain and #5 Lovell will a light schedule to start, each with a game vs. Tongue River.

They are the 4-time defending champs, and until some 1A team can beat them, Burlington will remain as the unanimous #1 team. The Huskies have an extra week to prepare for the season, because they have nothing scheduled on opening weekend. The top 4 teams all hail from the west, with Little Snake River at #2, St Stephens at #3 and Farson-Eden at #4. Kaycee is the only east team ranked at #5, to start the season.
