Wyoming High School Boys and Girls Soccer Rankings: April 5, 2017
The upcoming weekend will be a great preview of where the 3A teams stand and could guide the voters in the next coaches/media rankings.
Most of the 4A boys will be dealing with conference play. Unanimous #1 Campbell County will face the #2 team for the second time in as many weeks. This time it's Cheyenne Central that has moved up to the #2 spot. Laramie dropped to #3 after being shut out by the Camels at home last weekend. #5 Rock Springs could have an argument to move up the rankings. The Tigers just beat #4 Natrona, but the votes had already been cast before the final score came. The other argument that RS has, is that they beat the Indians back on the opening weekend of the season. The Tigers will be in Worland for the weekend playing some ranked 3A teams.
Speaking of ranked 3A teams, most of them will be battling each other at the Pinnacle Cup Tournament in Worland. Along with #5 4A Rock Springs, the top 4 ranked 3A teams are all on the same side of the bracket. Cody and Torrington are tied for the #1 ranking, and could face each other in the semi-finals, but there's a hard road for both. The Broncs would have to get by Rock Springs, and then probably #4 Riverton, while the TrailBlazers might have to face the host and #3 Worland in the second round. #5 Lander ended up on the other side of the bracket from all the other ranked teams.
In 4A Girls, Campbell County is the near unanimous #1 in 4A Girls. The Lady Camels have a tough road trip ahead playing against #3 Cheyenne East and #5 Cheyenne Central. #2 Laramie had their Tuesday game vs. Cheyenne South moved to Thursday, because of weather and field conditions. Elsewhere #4 Kelly Walsh is taking care of business in the west. The Lady Trojans host cross-town rival Natrona on Friday.
There was a slight change in 3A Girls. Star Valley moves ahead of Worland for #2, bumping the Lady Warriors to #3. The Lady Braves could meet #1 Cody in the semi-finals of the Southwest Invitational Tournament in Green River this weekend, and Worland could play the winner in the finals, depending on how the other games play out. #4 Buffalo and #5 Rawlins will be there as well, although the Lady Outlaws just lost home vs. unranked Douglas. The ballots had already been cast before that final score came in.
