It’s not quite the mid-point of the season, but the Wyoming Cowboys are coming off their only break during the 2017 season.

Saturday was the one time the Pokes didn’t play a game. KOWB’s David Settle recently caught up with junior safety and team captain Marcus Epps for a little ‘State of the Cowboys’ interview on how the team is at 3-2 on the season.

Epps talks about the defensive improvements, limiting big plays, scoring in different ways and more.

Now the Cowboys turn their attention to Utah State. They play the Aggies in Logan, UT on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. It’s the first of five straight games within the Mountain Division of the Mountain West Conference over the next five weeks.

One area on offense that Wyoming is continuing to progress is at tight end. The Cowboys lost an all-conference performer Jacob Hollister from last season. He’s now playing professionally with the New England Patriots. A pair of junior’s Tyree Mayfield and Josh Harshman are trying to fill that spot.

Mayfield recently talked with KOWB’s David Settle about learning and growing into the position and other tight end-related topics.

The two have combined for 13 catches for 126 yards. Mayfield is averaging 12 yards per catch, while Harshman is at 13.2 yards per reception.

The Cowboys are continuing to look for more ways to improve offensively, and the tight ends are a part of the whole package.
