From start to finish, the University of Wyoming Cowgirls controlled their season opener and rolled to a 104-29 victory over the Western State Mountaineers.

Every Cowgirl scored and grabbed at least one rebound in the 75-point victory. Four players scored in double figures. Kayla Woodward led with 17 points. Marquelle Dent had 16 points and seven assists. Freshmen Bailee Cotton and Marleah Campbell added 12 points apiece. Cotton also snatched nine rebounds.

Dent said,

"I think it went great. Definitely on the defensive end, it went amazing... It feels great to come out and get that first win of the season."

Wyoming (1-0) led 8-5 with 17 minutes left in the first half. That's when the flood gates opened. The Cowgirls exploded for a 31-4 run over the next ten minutes. UW led 56-18 at halftime. Their biggest lead was the final margin, which was reached with 1:54 left.

Head coach Joe Legerski said, "I thought we came out, we pushed the ball early; had great transition with Marquelle. I also thought Marquelle changed the game defensively."

Western State (0-1) took until the 6:02 mark to reach double figures in points. The Mountaineers were led by Taylor Long with six points. They hit only 19 percent of their shots.

The Cowgirls shot 56 percent (38-68) from the field. They were 11-27 (40.7%) from deep. They were 17-27 (63%) at the line. UW held a 51-32 edge on the glass. They also finished with 26 assists and only five turnovers.

Legerski added, "We came out and played how we wanted to play. We made the extra pass; players shot the ball well; but I thought out intensity level was good, and we maintained that intensity level."

Next up for the Wyoming women will be Denver University on Friday at 7 p.m.
