The University of Wyoming will present their operational plan for beer and wine sales at UW athletic events to the Laramie City Council during their work session tonight.

The plan, which will be presented by Bill Sparks, senior associate athletic director of business operations for UW athletics, UW Police Chief Mike Samp and Vice President of Governmental and Community Affairs Chris Boswell  and will detail the university’s strategy for alcohol sales at the War Memorial Stadium and the Arena Auditorium.

“This work session tonight is a chance for the university to come and present to council their intended plans for alcohol sales that are slated to begin this year,” said Mayor Andrea Summerville. “It’s really the first chance for the city council to take a look at that.”

Summerville said the council wants to make sure the university has a good plan moving forward and that everything goes smoothly.

“This is a new venture for Laramie, to my knowledge this has not been done in recent history or at all,” Summerville said.

The plan, which was approved by the UW Board of Trustees during their November meeting, estimates revenues will be anywhere from $300,000 to $350,000 a year.

Vendors will be selected using a bid process and will be awarded a three-year contract with two additional option years.

The plan outlines the university’s strategy to monitor and control alcohol sales, which includes hand stamping, wrist bands that have pull off tabs to limit the number of drinks a person can consume per each event, as well as a no re-entry policy.

A safer game-day environment is another objective of the plan. According to the plan, alcohol sales will have the potential to reduce binge drinking before and after games and reduce the amount of ‘hard alcohol’ in the stadium and reduce the number of alcohol-related behavioral situations at games.

Public comments will be accepted during the work session.
