The University of Wyoming has appointed 13-member committee to conduct a nation-wide search for a new Vice President for Student Affairs.

The committee is comprised of UW staff and faculty members, as well as two UW students.

Institutional Communications Director Chad Baldwin said students are not always present on UW search committees and  committee composition varies depending on the position.

“Every job is a little different, the UW presidential search committee also had students on it. The position of vice president for student affairs has great interaction with the students, which is why there are students on the board,” Baldwin said.

Baldwin said that the office of the president and the committee co-chairs reached out to the two students on the board, Benjamin Wetzel and Courtney Thomson-Lichty.

Current vice president Sara Axelson is retiring at the end of the fiscal year, after serving UW for 18 years, the last 11 as vice president for student affairs.

The vice president is responsible for the smooth operation of many UW units concerning student life, including Residence Life and Dining Services, the Dean of Student’s office, Campus Recreation, and the Wyoming Union, among others.
