The University of Wyoming has appointed David Jewell as its associate vice president for budgeting and fiscal planning. Jewell is an experienced financial manager who has worked with UW in the past to design its management systems.

“We are delighted to have David join the university to lead our budgeting and fiscal planning processes,” Vice President for Administration Bill Mai says. “We are revamping the way the university does business in many respects, and the manner in which we establish budgets and plan our fiscal future is a big part of that.”

Jewell will be filling a new position in the university which was created from three vacant positions in the Division of Administration that will not be filled.

Jewell’s received a Master of Business Administration degree from Vanderbilt’s Owen Graduate School of Management in 2012. He has worked as an interim director of finance and administration at the Vanderbilt Law School. He also been a consultant for Huron Consulting Group, where he advised universities in the U.S and Canada on resource allocation, planning and management and financial reporting projects.

“I very much look forward to working collaboratively with President Nichols, the vice presidents, deans, faculty, staff and students to ensure UW’s approach to budgeting and planning, and the implementation of WyoCloud, align to support the university’s strategic plan and further support its core missions of discovery, teaching and service,” Jewell says.

WyoCloud is an Oracle cloud-based system that UW will use for financial management, human capital management, grants management, supply chain management, budgeting, and reporting and analytics.

Jewell will begin his duties on Nov. 21.
