Undergraduate Research Day to Celebrate Student Researchers

University of Wyoming students of many disciplines will have the opportunity to display their independent research projects this Saturday, April 29.

As part of Wyoming Undergraduate Research Day, nearly 500 UW students will present their research in oral and poster presentations, according to a UW news release. Each 15 minute oral presentation will be followed by a five minute question and answer session.

The topics that will be presented include agriculture, education, engineering, health sciences, business, mathematical sciences, social sciences, biological and physical sciences and the arts and humanities.

Vice President for Research and Economic Development Bill Gern said the event has grown since its inception, with about 80 students participating in the first Undergraduate Research Day.

“Undergraduate Research Day’s growth and success are fundamentally the result of students wanting to pursue problems that expand what is learned during an undergraduate career,” Gern said in a statement. “Also fundamental is faculty members’ willingness to work one on one with these students. Such research allows students to use their education and work with real issues they will encounter in the world outside of the university.”

Oral presentations are scheduled to take place at 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Classroom Building on the UW Campus. Poster presentations will be held in the Wyoming Union Family Room from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
