Liz Zimmer didn't know anyone in the 133rd Wyoming National Guard Engineer Company deployed in Bahrain. That didn't stop her from wanting to remind our service men and women, Wyoming and the United States have their back.

Zimmer of Liz's Cakes in Laramie teamed up with Jessica Romero of Sweets: Cake's and Pastry to help send care packages to these troops.

"The boxes have been filled with anything from drink mixes, Otter Pops, homemade jelly, Crumble Bars, cookies, jerky, lotion, pain relievers, sleep aids, Chex Mix, paper, baggies, letters from kids, thank you letters and drawings, Rice Krispys, pudding snack packs, bread, UW items. Really just anything to remind them of home and things they may need so they don’t have to buy them" Liz said.

All of the items are graciously received from the 133rd, but there is one in particular they prefer.  "This last time they requested elk jerky so we requested elk meat from the community because nobody would make jerky. My husband made them 9 gallon baggies of elk jerky."

Thanks to community support, Liz and Jessica have gone from shipping 2 or 3 boxes of goodies a month to between 10 and 17 boxes.

Local celebrities Chancey Williams and The Younger Brothers Band recently donated 165 CD's for each member of the 133rd.

If you would like to donate items to the troops a central drop-off location has been set up at Fresh Flower Fantasy at 2710 Grand Ave. in Laramie.

Monetary donations can be mailed or deposited in the Treats for Troops account at UniWyo or mailed to 1928 Cottonwood Drive.  Laramie, WY 82070.  If you have additional questions please contact Liz at (307) 760-9220 or e-mail lizscakeswy@yahoo.com.
