Despite their 0-6 record this season, there are reasons for Wyoming football fans to be optimistic.

The Pokes have actually covered the point spread in three of their last four games and are 3-3 this season against the spread this season.

After being ranked 128th out of 128 teams in the ESPN College Football Power Index, the Cowboys have climbed all the way up to 123rd.

This weekend's opponent, Nevada, isn't much better, ranking 97th in the country. In fact, the odds makers have set the Wolf Pack as a 7 point favorite. If Wyoming can cover the spread on Saturday, it should be a close game.

And here's another reason for Pokes fans to keep the faith. Regardless of what happens, we've seen worse teams before.

Here's our list of the 5 worst teams in the 110 year history of the Wyoming football program.

1. 1913 - Not only did Coach R.W. Thacker's team finish 0-5, they were also outscored 183-0 by their opponents. For all the struggles Wyoming's had this year, at least they've scored a point.

2. 2000 - The worst Wyoming team in recent memory finished 1-10. Their only win came at home versus Central Michigan. Of their 10 losses, only one was by less than a touchdown. Sadly, things wouldn't get much better for Coach Vic Koenning, who left the program two years later after compiling a record of 5-29.

3. 1970 - Just three years earlier, Wyoming was ranked 5th in the country and played in the Sugar Bowl. In 1969, the Pokes were undefeated after four games and ranked 12th. Then, Coach Lloyd Eaton dismissed 14 players from the team for protesting the racial policies of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints during a game against Brigham Young University.

Following the infamous "Black 14" incident, Wyoming would lose its last five games of 1969 and finished the 1970 campaign 1-9. Eaton, who had built the program into a national powerhouse, would be fired following the season.

4. 1923 - Not much is known about the 1923 season, which is probably a good thing. The Cowboys finished with a record of 0-8, marking the last time Wyoming has endured an entire season without a win or tie.

5. 1939 - Coach Joel Hunt's one and only year in Laramie was not a good one. Hopes were high when Hunt came to Wyoming in 1939, fresh from a stint as Head Coach for the University of Georgia. Hunt was a star athlete at Texas A+M, and also played baseball professionally for the St. Louis Cardinals before launching his coaching career. Sadly, his lone season with the Cowboys would result in a record of 0-7-1.
