The jury ruled that the prosecution didn’t prove that Sydney King, 22, was guilty beyond a reasonable doubt of aggravated assault-bodily injury with a deadly weapon.

Sydney Payton King, 22, is charged with aggravated assault – bodily injury with a deadly weapon. If convicted, she could face up to 10 years in prison.

The victim later alleged in a Facebook post that the attack was racially motivated. Laramie police continue to investigate and have not concluded whether racial bias was involved.

The emergency room doctor reportedly said the stab wound to the victim's right wrist cut into an artery and was life-threatening.

The department notes in the release that Wyoming does not enhance penalties for those convicted of crimes motivated by bias.
