Sweetwater County Sheriff Rich Haskell says he is running for another term in 2014.

Haskell is a Republican and was first elected sheriff in 2006. He is a long-time veteran of the agency, having served in several posts, including as a detective.

In his announcement he cites a variety of improvements that he says have been implemented under his leadership. They include 24/7 countywide patrol coverage, an active role in the Southwest Enforcement Team anti-drug effort, anti-gang efforts, improvements to the county detention center, and several other steps aimed at improving the department and law enforcement in general.

The Sweetwater County Sheriff's Department now includes 105 people in a wide variety of roles, ranging from clerical staff to patrol deputies. The agency has an annual budget of over $10 million.
