Sweep Keeps Rangers Undefeated In Conference

The broom was out again last night for the Laramie Rangers, as they swept a Southeast Conference doubleheader against the Rawlins Generals.

Laramie won both games via the 10-run mercy rule, which stopped the contests in the fifth inning. The final score in game one was 18-5, while game two finished with a 12-2 tally on the board.

Manager Rich Wilson was very happy with way his team jumped on Rawlins in both games.

"That's what we need to do. Every team, you go in there expecting to do that and good things happen. You know, if you have a doubt, then it's a long night; but, you get 'em down right off the start, and they're down. It's hard to come back from that; we've been there."

The Rangers scored 12 runs in the first two innings of the opener. After their lead was trimmed to 13-5, Laramie capped it off with five runs in the fourth inning.

A 19-hit attack was led by Taylor Dodd. He finished with three hits and an RBI. Six other Rangers had two hits apiece, and that included Drew Burman, who had three RBI. Laramie took advantage of five walks, seven stolen bases and seven errors by Rawlins.

Nate Hill threw three innings for the win on the mound.

Game two was about balance for the Rangers. They scored three runs in four different innings. With a 6-0 after three innings, the Generals came back with a pair of runs in the third. Laramie answered with three in the fourth and fifth to end it.

The 11-hit attack saw four Rangers with two hits apiece. Harrison Yates collected three RBI, while Burman, Dodd and Kacey Bernaski had two RBI each. Laramie was the beneficiary of six more walks, four stolen bases and four errors by Rawlins.

Marshall Stuart pitched two scoreless innings for the victory. Joseph Legerski closed out the final three frames.

Laramie is now 8-10 this season and 4-0 in the Wyoming 'A' American Legion Baseball Southeast Conference.

Hill said the way they've started conference play thus far, "It sends a message that we're here to play, and we're not taking it lightly. I mean, we need to come out and score runs like that; show 'em what we got, and I think we did tonight."

The Rangers will return to the diamond next Tuesday and Wednesday with a pair of home doubleheaders at Cowboy Field.
