Get those kids out from behind the TV, off the computer, and actually have them set down the video game controller this weekend for a free day of fun at Curt Gowdy State Park. The Wyoming Kids Xtreme Summer Outdoor Slam is Saturday, June 2, from 10AM to 3PM.

There will be biking, hiking, climbing, kayaking, canoeing, fishing, archery and a massive pile of dirt. Also painting, sing-a-longs and storytelling. Paul Gritten, Non-Motorized State Trails Coordinator, says there is something to do for children of all ages and it is absolutely free. There will be no charge to enter the park on Saturday.

Sue Castaneda with Wyoming State Parks does suggest that kids bring sunscreen, water bottles and a light jacket. She says they might also want to bring a picnic lunch or there will be a vendor selling hamburger, hot dogs and other food.

Registration can be done in advance at wyoparks.org or calling (307)777-8557. There will be a liability waiver that all participants are required to have signed by a parent or guardian.

This is the 75th Anniversary of Wyoming State Parks, Historic Sites and Trails. Wyoming has 12 state parks, 22 state historic sites and thousands of miles of both on and off road trails, all under the Division of Wyoming State Parks and Cultural Resources.
