St. Laurence O'Toole Elementary School will close its doors to elementary students June 30.

Rev. David J. Erickson says in a news release that the school's enrollment numbers have been in decline for years and the cost per student has increased to where the school cannot afford to continue operating after 61 years.

The school's Pre-K program for 3- to 4-year-olds will remain open.

Here is the full release from Rev. Erickson:

St. Laurence O’Toole Elementary School has been serving the children and families of our Laramie community for 61 years. It is with sadness that today we publically announce that our doors will close on June 30, 2016. Our enrollment numbers have been in decline for years and costs to educate each child have increased to the point that it is unfeasible to continue our services.

Our school opened her doors in 1954 with the good services from the Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth, KS. There are generations of our graduates still living in Laramie with others spread across the globe. To our current parents, faculty, teachers, staff, volunteers, and parishioners – we thank you for entrusting and supporting our mission to these children! We strived to provide the best of Catholic education and formation for our youth in accord with the teaching of Our Lord, Jesus Christ. We thank all of the good people of our community for their decades of support to our school. The nostalgia, your dedication, and our school mission is what makes it sad to close our doors for so many good people.

While our doors are closing for elementary school students, our doors will remain open for our Pre-K Program for ages 3-4 yrs. old. We will be open from 8-5 pm Monday through Friday beginning August 22, 2016. We offer a professional Full-day program and a Half-day program at affordable rates. Please contact our School Office for more information (307) 742-6363.
