Special Olympics Wyoming Summer Games Coming to Laramie

The 40th Anniversary of Special Olympics Wyoming will be celebrated in Laramie during the Summer Games on May 10, 11 & 12. Competition over the three days will include track & field, swimming & diving, basketball, gymnastics and power lifting.

“We have some athletes that have been in the program since it began, so we’re going to recognize them at the Opening Ceremonies,” said local volunteer coordinator Emily Gran. “We’re going to have an awesome banquet and victory dance for the athletes on Friday night and the theme is ‘Take Me Out to the Ballgame’, so expect all the athletes to be dressed in their favorite baseball uniforms. It’s going to be a great weekend.”

With so much going on with the 2012 summer games, they need a lot of people to make everything run smoothly and are still looking for volunteers. Help is needed for competition management, opening ceremonies, meal service, awards, venue support and more. With the great spirit that always accompanies the summer games, it’s a good opportunity for you and your friends to have a great time. Opportunities are available for groups up to 20 people. Gran actually issued a challenge to businesses around the Gem City to see who can come up with the biggest group of volunteers during the summer games.
