South Dakota Hires Former UW Football Coach
In 2005, he was hailed by Sporting News as "...the coach every major program with an opening will be courting with a multimillion-dollar contract."
On November 23, 2008, he was fired by the University of Wyoming at the conclusion of a 4-8 season.
On December 5, 2011, Joe Glenn was named the 29th head football coach in the history of the University of South Dakota.
Glenn, now 62, played quarterback for South Dakota and graduated in 1971. He also began his coaching career as a backfield coach for the Coyotes in 1974.
Glenn and his wife Michele have been semi-retired and living in Phoenix since 2008. He will replace Ed Meierkort, who coached USD for the past 8 years and was not offered a contract renewal.
Prior to Wyoming, where he coached the Pokes to a 30-41 record over 6 years, Glenn won a Division I-AA National Championship at Montana in 2001. Before that, he won back-to-back Division II National Championships as the head coach at the University of Northern Colorado in 1996 and 1997.
