Break out the shovels, gloves, and get your vehicles winterized ASAP.  The National Weather Service has issued a Special Weather Statement for Albany County:

.. STRONG AUTUMN STORM TO BRING MUCH COLDER AIR AND POTENTIAL FOR LIGHT SNOWFALL ACCUMULATIONS ON THURSDAY AND FRIDAY...

A SIGNIFICANT COLD FRONT WILL DIVE SOUTH INTO SOUTHEAST WYOMING AND THE WESTERN NEBRASKA PANHANDLE ON THURSDAY. MUCH COLDER AIR AND CONSIDERABLE CLOUD COVER WILL ACCOMPANY THIS FRONTAL PASSAGE WITH DAYTIME HIGHS ONLY IN THE 40S ON THURSDAY. TEMPERATURES ARE EXPECTED TO PLUNGE INTO THE 25 TO 30 DEGREE RANGE ACROSS MUCH OF THE AREA BY FRIDAY MORNING... SETTING THE STAGE FOR A WIDESPREAD FROST AND FREEZE EVENT. IN ADDITION TO THE COLD... RAIN IS LIKELY TO DEVELOP FROM NORTH TO SOUTH DURING THE DAY ON THURSDAY BEFORE QUICKLY CHANGING TO SNOW BY EARLY FRIDAY MORNING. AT THIS TIME IT APPEARS THE HEAVIEST PRECIPITATION WILL FALL AS RAIN OR A WINTRY MIX... SO ONLY MINOR SNOWFALL ACCUMULATIONS ARE EXPECTED. HOWEVER AN INCH OR TWO OF WET SNOW CANNOT BE RULED OUT ON GRASSY SURFACES AT ELEVATIONS ABOVE 4500 FEET THROUGH FRIDAY MORNING. FARMERS AND RANCHERS... AS WELL AS THOSE WITH TRAVEL PLANS OR OUTDOOR INTERESTS SHOULD BE PREPARED FOR ABRUPT CHANGES IN WEATHER CONDITIONS. STAY TUNED TO THE LATEST NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE FORECAST FOR FURTHER INFORMATION REGARDING THIS STORM.
