Shifts and Additions to Future Cowboy Football Schedules
The future schedules for the Wyoming Cowboys have changed with additional new opponents announced and some switching of dates in already planned games.
In a release from the University of Wyoming Athletics Department, they announced a new home-and-home series versus Texas Tech has been added to its future football schedules, along with single road games at Iowa and Clemson. A new home-and-home series has also been added against the Idaho Vandals.
The Cowboys will travel to Lubbock, Texas, in 2020 to take on the Red Raiders. Texas Tech will return to Laramie in 2022. Wyoming will play the Iowa Hawkeyes in Iowa City, Iowa, in 2017. That is a single-game contract between the Cowboys and Hawkeyes. UW also has signed a single-game contract to play at Clemson in 2021. One other home-and-home series that has been added to the Pokes future schedules is versus the University of Idaho. That two-game series will begin in 2018 in Moscow, Idaho, with the Vandals returning to Laramie for the second game in the series in 2019.
To enable Wyoming to play at Iowa on Sept. 2, 2017, one other change has been made to the 2017 schedule. Wyoming was scheduled to travel to Missouri in 2017, but that game has been pushed back to Sept. 8, 2018, in Columbia, Missouri. The Tigers are now scheduled to travel to Laramie, Wyo., for an Aug. 31, 2019, meeting.
UW also announced changes in dates for its 2014 football schedule on Wednesday. The shift in 2014 game dates affects three non-conference games. Wyoming will now play at Oregon on Saturday, Sept. 13, rather than the original date of Saturday, Sept. 6. Wyoming’s home game versus Florida Atlantic has changed to Saturday, Sept. 20 (originally scheduled for Sept. 27) and the Cowboys’ road game at Michigan State has been moved to Saturday, Sept. 27 (originally scheduled for Sept. 20). The changes in 2014 dates were made in cooperation with all the schools to accommodate changes requested by ESPN.
The one non-conference date on the 2014 schedule that didn’t change was the Aug. 30 season opener versus Montana in Laramie.
As of now, Saturday, Sept. 6, 2014, is an open date, but there is a possibility that date could be filled by a Mountain West Conference game when the Mountain West releases its conference football schedule later this spring.
