All four deputies who were at the scene of the fatal officer-involved shooting at Snowy Range Ski Area Dec. 6 have returned to duty, according to Albany County Sheriff Dave O’Malley.

The four deputies – Matt Donnell, Edward Rosier, Aaron Gallegos, and Adam Dean – were placed on administrative leave pending the result of the investigation per office policy.

“I’ve got all four back at work now,” says O’Malley.  “I know that they were very excited to be able to get back to work.”

O’Malley says his office was notified by the Wyoming Attorney General’s Office on Dec. 24 that no charges would be filed against any of the deputies.

“They had reviewed the DCI investigation of the officer-involved shooting and they determined that the situation was met with appropriate force,” says O’Malley.

John Alan Britton, 48, of Colorado was shot and killed Dec. 6 at Snowy Range Ski Area after charging toward the deputies with a hunting knife, according to the Albany County Sheriff’s Office.

“The results of the investigation clearly indicated that these guys acted and reacted appropriately for the situation that they had been faced with,” says O’Malley.  “I continue to be proud of these guys as well as the rest of my staff.”

Wyoming Attorney General Peter Michael says the DCI report remains confidential until the case is closed.
