The school board for Albany County School District plans to revise the proposed policy for transgender and gender non-conforming students in a special meeting on Wednesday, October 7 starting at 6:30 p.m.

The policy is designed to help school district employees address and meet the needs of transgender and gender non-conforming students and their parents. The policy states that each student will be assessed on a case by case basis.

A section of the policy proposes that transgender students should not be required to use locker rooms or restrooms that conflict with their gender identity.

The policy also proposes making resources available for parents to find more information about what it means to be transgender, as well as educating other students about gender diversity.

The full policy proposal can be viewed here.
