SAFE Project Sponsoring Two Events On October 18th and 26th

Albany County SAFE Project was founded in Laramie in 1980. The mission of SAFE is “to advocate for victims of domestic abuse, sexual assault, rape, and incest, and to create change through education and awareness to eliminate violence”. We also serve victims of child abuse, elder abuse, and stalking. Starting at 7pm this evening at the University of Wyoming's Union Ballroom, author and expert on domestic abuse Lundy Bancroft will give a speech titled "The Causes and Solutions for Domestic Abuse."

According to Laramie Police Commander Mitch Cushman there were 3,305 domestic violence incidents reported in Wyoming. The Laramie Police Department alone recorded 158 domestic violence calls. Since January of this year there have been a recorded 118 incidents. As of last year Albany County SAFE Project has worked closely with 236 victims of domestic violence.

Long term effects of domestic violence can be devastating and the issue must be addressed. The public is invited to attend Lundy Bancroft's speech this evening beginning at 7pm at the UW Union Ballroom. On October 26th Albany County SAFE Project will also have a candlelight vigil honoring those women who died in Albany County from domestic abuse. The candlelight vigil is scheduled for 6pm at the Alice Hardie Stevens Center.
