Rockies Host Mets This Weekend

The Colorado Rockies (9-9) return from their six-game road-trip to Milwaukee and Pittsburgh going 3-3 in two places where wins were hard to come by last season. Tonight they open a nine-game home-stand and a weekend series against the New York Mets (11-8) with Drew Pomerantz scheduled to start for the Rockies at 6:10 at Coors Field (TV: Root Sports).

Pomeranz should have a simple plan entering tonight’s start: repeat what he did in the first four innings of his last outing and avoid what he did in his final frame. The lefty retired the first 12 batters he faced Saturday in four perfect innings against the Brewers before giving up two runs on two hits and three walks in the fifth. He managed to strike out five batters, however, and those first four innings were a sign of progress, the Rockies hope.

“It’s just one of those things where I lost my rhythm for a minute, and you can’t do that in the middle of a game,” Pomeranz said after that outing. “It’s hard to pitch when you lose it for a second there.”

For tonight’s start, the Mets will call up Chris Schwinden from Triple-A Buffalo to replace Mike Pelfrey, who is out with a right elbow injury that will almost certainly require season-ending Tommy John surgery.

Tickets are available for tonight’s home game at Coors Field vs. the NY Mets, and can be purchased by calling (800) 388-ROCK, or click here.
