Relative Theatrics will host its latest installment of its monthly Read, Rant, Relate: Igniting Conversation Through Theatre tonight at 7 pm at the Laramie Plains Civic Center.

The play-reading program, funded in part by the Wyoming Humanities, is free and open to the public. Participants have the chance to engage with modern plays as actors lead readings of the scripts, followed by discussions.

Anne Mason is an actor, director, theatre educator, and producer in Laramie. She organized the play readings and said their purpose is to introduce people to scripts in a digestible format.

“It’s similar to a book club, but instead of introducing people to books we are introducing them to plays,” Mason said.

Mason said that she hopes that the monthly play-reading sessions will help dispel negative associations surrounding theater.

“My hope is that we can shift the way people think about plays. There is a stigma that theater is inaccessible, highbrow and incomprehensible,” Mason said. “I hope we can get people more involved with the craft.”

This month’s play-reading program features “In the Next Room; Or, The Vibrator Play” by Sarah Ruhl. The play is a 2010 Pulitzer Prize finalist for drama.
