The Laramie Rangers squandered a 7-0 lead and lost to the Cheyenne legion JV team for the second time this season, 12-11, Tuesday night in Cheyenne.

Laramie (3-11) was looking for back-to-back wins for only the second time this season. They led 8-4 when the Cheyenne Hawks rallied and took the lead for good at Powers Field. Cheyenne scored three runs in the fourth inning and five in the fifth, which made it 12-8.

The Rangers responded with three runs in the sixth. Caleb Eaton had an RBI groundout, while Reid Baty and Will Yates came through with RBI singles. A strike-out with a runner at third ended the threat. After a lead-off single by Ramon Gomez in the seventh, a pair of fly outs and a groundout ended the game.

Laramie hurt themselves with six errors defensively that led to 9 unearned runs for the Hawks. Matt Smith started, went 4.1 innings and took the loss. Reston Morehouse threw the last 1.2 innings.

Blake Moore led the offense with two triples, two RBI’s and three runs scored. Baty reached base four times with two hits and two walks. He also drove in two runs and scored twice. Yates added two hits.

It was 1-0 Laramie when the Rangers scored six times in the second inning with two outs. After an RBI-sacrifice fly by Baden Jordan, Moore tripled to center field and two runs scored. Albert Steiner and Baty added RBI singles, while an error allowed another run.

Cheyenne fought back with two runs each in the second and third before they got the lead in the fifth.

Laramie plays at Wheatland in one 7-inning game Wednesday at 6 p.m.
