The losing skid reached four on Thursday, as the Laramie Rangers were swept in a road twin bill by Gering, NE.

Laramie (1-7) lost 6-4 in game one. They fell in game two by a final of 6-3.

The Rangers out-hit Gering in both games, but left a combined 18 runners on base in the doubleheader.

Manager Brandon Ruckman was pleased with their effort, but knew their offense wasn't as consistent as it need to be.

"The kids played well, but couldn't string together the hits and put runs across the plate.  They hit the ball hard, but it seemed to go right at defenders. Hats off to Gering, their pitchers just pounded the strike zone and didn't make many mistakes."

Laramie took a 1-0 lead in the opener on Taylor Dodd’s RBI single after Albert Steiner had tripled. The Gering PVC Seniors answered with three in the bottom of the first and never surrendered the lead. The Rangers pulled within 4-3 after RBI singles from Harrison Yates and Logan Pickard in the fifth. Gering responded with a run in the fifth and sixth and held off Laramie, 6-3.

Dodd suffered the loss on the mound. He allowed five runs on five hits in four innings. Dodd led an 11-hit attack with three singles, an RBI and a run.

The Rangers took an early 2-0 edge in game two. David Coulthard had an RBI single and later scored on an error in the second inning. Gering rallied with four in the third on a bunt single, 2-run double and a sacrifice fly. The PVC Seniors tacked on two more runs in the next two frames for a 6-2 lead.

Harrison Yates started and was the losing pitcher. He gave up five runs on three hits over four innings. Yates struck out six and walked three.

Dodd led the offense again with three of the Rangers’ nine hits.

Gering pitcher Chris Palomo went the distance. He struck out ten with only one walk.

Laramie returns to action Saturday and Sunday with a pair of doubleheaders. First is a road trip to Rock Springs to face Archie Hay Post 24 in a twin bill at 2 p.m. Saturday. The Rangers return to Cowboy Field Sunday for a double dip that starts at noon.
