Lexi Pulley scored a career-high 21 points to lead the Laramie Lady Plainsmen to a 56-21 thumping of Riverton Saturday at home in the Taco John’s Invitational.

Pulley and Olivia Dorrell scored 13 of Laramie’s 18 points in the first quarter. That helped LHS to an 18-6 edge after the first eight minutes. The Lady Plainsmen held Riverton to single-digit scoring in all four quarters. They were ahead 30-12 by halftime and cruised to victory.

Laramie (7-2) head coach Laura Pollard said they entered on the premise of a stronger start with her starting five.

“They’ve got to come out of the gate harder and produce right away, and that sets the tone for the rest of the team.”

Dorrell added nine total points and six rebounds for LHS. They shot 38 percent from the field, but Laramie also held the Wolverines to 17 percent and forced 30 Riverton turnovers. The Lady Plainsmen also took care of the basketball. They didn’t turn it over in either the opening or third quarter.

Coach Pollard highlighted the play of Pulley, who had no fouls and also said, “I thought Olivia (Dorrell) went to the boards real well the whole game, actually, and tried to, not only off of her shot, which she has a tendency to do all the time, but trying to sneak in there when somebody else is shooting.”

Laramie will close non-conference play with action against No. 3 Rock Springs and Green River at home next weekend.
