Prosecutor Won’t Seek Charges in Abduction Shooting
GILLETTE, Wyo. (AP) — A prosecutor says a teenager was justified in killing a man who tried to abduct his estranged wife from a northern Wyoming home last month.
Campbell County Attorney Jeani Stone announced Tuesday she won't press charges against the unidentified 14-year-old boy.
Stone said the boy killed 48-year-old Sammy Michael Fears of Casper with a handgun on Feb. 19.
Stone stated Cathy Fears had moved to a home in Wright to escape her husband's abuse. The boy shot Sammy Fears after he arrived and forced his wife into a car while hitting her.
Cathy Fears had told the boy earlier that her husband commonly carried guns. Investigators found guns in his car and found a revolver he apparently dropped after being shot. Toxicology tests found methamphetamine in his system.
