An accident near the University of Wyoming injured one and caused a large power outage yesterday afternoon. Officials say that a southbound vehicle went off the road around 1:20 p.m. on Thursday, striking a utility pole on 15th Street near Sorority and Fraternity Row. The driver was transported to the hospital shortly after the crash, and his condition is not known at this time.

A spokesperson for Rocky Mountain Power said the accident resulted in nearly 2900 people without electricity. Crews from Rocky Mountain Power began repairing the pole soon after the accident, and power was restored to just over 2000 people shortly before 3 p.m.  Crews continued to work on the pole, and power was restored to more people just after 3 p.m. Crews completed and restored power to all affected a little after 6:30 p.m.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.
