On the strength of six undefeated performances in their line-up, the Laramie Plainsmen wrestling took third place last Friday at the Bison Bonanza Dual Tournament.

Laramie (4-2) won their first two matches by shut-out. It was 75-0 over Shoshoni and 72-0 over Burns/Pine Bluffs. In their third match, the Plainsmen lost to Cheyenne East, 44-33. They rebounded with a 68-6 thumping of Torrington, before Laramie defeated Douglas 48-25 in the third place match.

Plainsmen head coach Mikah Kadera felt they took steps in the right direction.

“Still a lot to work on individually and as a team. Still got to get some guys down to a certain weight class… but we took the step forward we needed to; not a step back; so that was good.”

Seniors Idris Elias, Ryan Killpack, Carless Looney and Kaden Schriner, plus sophomores Zech Aguilar and Ethan Sell posted perfect records on the day.

Kadera really liked the work they did before the tournament.

“The last three or four practices of break were the best practices we’ve had all year.”

The Plainsmen return to the mat Tuesday against Wheatland with the second of their three home duals. Varsity match time is at 6 p.m.
