UPDATE: New information has come to light regarding the driver's condition.  The Laramie Police Department said that serious injuries to the driver were in fact discovered by medical personnel last night.  The driver has been transported from Ivinson Memorial Hospital to Cheyenne Regional Medical Center for treatment.  More updates will be provided as they are made available.

At about 2:12 p.m. today, personnel from the Laramie Police and Fire Departments responded to an overturned cement truck on the southeast corner of the intersection at 15th and Sheridan.  The driver was seriously injured.

Justin Birch of the Little Laramie Volunteer Fire Department was one of the first people to arrive at the scene.  He happened to be driving by and saw the overturned truck.  The front end of the truck was wedged against a Jeep Cherokee that was parked on the curb.  Birch immediately went to the cab to check on the driver.

"The seatbelt was strangling him, so I cut him out of there," said Birch.  He proceeded to shut off the engine and make sure that there was no other immediate danger to the driver or to other first responders.  The driver of the cement truck, who was seriously injured, was alone in the cab, and no one else was injured as a result of the crash.

"There are no mechanical issues that I can see," said Wyoming Highway Patrol Officer R.J. Colling, meaning that the crash was probably not a result of some malfunction of the truck itself.

An investigation of the incident is underway and this story will be updated as more details come in.
