Nunn Finishes As National Runner-Up

Laramie seventh-grader Colter Nunn earned the title Reserve World Champion for Light Rifle Shooter at the National Junior High Finals Rodeo last week.

Nunn tied for first place with a score of 604, but lost the aggregate tie-breaker for bullseyes in the competition and came in second place. In addition to the buckle, Nunn received a $750 scholarship.

He had finished fifth during qualifying for the Light Rifle Competition with a score of 294.

That was one of three events Nunn participated in. He came in 30th in the average in chute dogging after a tough first round. Nunn did come back and won a buckle for the second-fastest time of 2.36 seconds in the second round. He also competed in boy’s breakaway roping and ended up in 78th place.

Fellow Laramie cowboy’s Kayson Dory and Kaden Berger were also in action.

Dory placed 43th in saddle bronc steer riding. His recorded a 44-point effort in the first round, but had no score in the second.

Berger and his partner, Haiden Thompson of Lusk, WY, came in 26th during the second round after stopping the clock in 14.3 seconds, but that was after a no time in the opening round.

The NJHFR was held in Lebanon, TN. Only the top 20 advanced to the final round.
