A new app released this week by the Albany County Tourism Board is designed to help travelers and locals alike find attractions such as historical sites, great businesses and fun things to do in the Gem City.

"Basically it's information that is contained on our website, in a mobile version," says Fred Ockers, the board's executive director. "More and more people obviously are going toward the smaller screens for their information, and one of our goals was to provide that information to them."

The app contains details about retailers and lodging properties in the county, as well as webcams set up throughout the area and links to University of Wyoming events.

Ockers says over 60 percent of people who visit the board's website, visitlaramie.org, use mobile devices to do so. The app aims to make that much simpler and provide information in a concise, attractive format.

"We tried to make it so that it would be also useful for locals," Ockers says.

Businesses not already featured on the app can call 307-745-4195 to register with the board.

Ockers says Albany County's tourism revenue has increased slightly this year. Last year, tourism revenue amounted to roughly $850,000.

The app is available through Google Play or the Apple Store.

"I think people will really enjoy it," Ockers says. "To my knowledge, it's the only app that actually touts Laramie and Albany County."
