A Green River man was killed in a motorcycle crash on a highway south of his home Sunday evening.

Nick Sanchez, 66, was the only person involved in the crash at 5:33 p.m. near milepost 13 on Wyoming Highway 530, about 13 miles south of Green River.

According to the Wyoming Highway Patrol, Sanchez was riding a 2011 Harley-Davidson motorcycle north on WY 530 at a high rate of speed in heavy rain. Sanchez failed to negotiate a curve in the highway and left the roadway to the east.

After the motorcycle left the highway, Sanchez was thrown from the motorcycle as it rolled multiple times. Sanchez was wearing a helmet, but nevertheless died at the scene.

The Patrol is investigating speed and wet road conditions as contributing factors in the crash. Sanchez was the 33rd person killed on Wyoming highways in 2016. The same period in 2015 saw 56 highway fatalities statewide.
