Mono Hits The Plainsmen

You can now make it two local men's basketball teams hit by the dreaded mononucleosis.

The Laramie Plainsmen will be without their leading scorer in junior guard Jake Aadland for tonight's game against Cheyenne South.

Aadland is out with mono. He is listed as week-to-week for the remainder of the season.

Plainsmen head coach Chuck Kern said that his squad isn't built around one player. It's built around defense and rebounding.

"We're going to need some guys to step up on the defensive end, and then we're going to need some guys to step up on the offensive end and knock down some shots. Good thing about that is we have a lot of seniors willing to step up."

Aadland is averaging 16.6 points per game this season. He has improved that to 20 per game in 4A East Conference action.

Laramie defeated South in Cheyenne two weeks ago, 47-41, when Aadland was not much of a factor. He was severely limited due to illness and was more of a decoy. Jake scored only four points on free throws in the final ten seconds of the win.

As for adjustments without Aadland in the line-up, Kern said there won't be.

Kern added, "Defensively our game plan shouldn't change a whole lot, and to be honest, offensively our game plan shouldn't change a whole lot."

The boys game tips-off at 5:30 p.m. at Laramie High School.
