McAdams Private Service and Unit Memorial Saturday

Chief Warrant Officer 3 Andrew Langston McAdams, of Cheyenne, died in a plane crash in Afghanistan Jan. 10.  McAdams, 27, was assigned to Task Force ODIN (Observe, Detect, Identify, Neutralize), along with eight other members of the Wyoming Army National Guard's Detachment 53 Operational Support Airlift Command.

According to a news release from the Wyoming National Guard, A private family service followed by a unit memorial honoring McAdams will be held Saturday.

McAdams was one of three people who  died Jan. 10, at Bagram Airfield, in Parwan province, Afghanistan, of injuries sustained when the aircraft they were aboard crashed.  The other two people were not members of the Wyoming Army National Guard. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.

"We are truly saddened by the loss of one of our own," said Maj. Gen. Luke Reiner, Wyoming's adjutant general.  "Chief McAdams was a part of the Wyoming Military Department family and our hearts go out to the McAdams' family. His sacrifice is great and his loss has been felt by all."

McAdams enlisted in the Wyoming Army National Guard in September 2003 as a member of the 1022nd Medical Company, the state's UH-60 Blackhawk unit.  He transferred to the Washington National Guard in December 2004 and deployed to Afghanistan from April 2011 - February 2012 while with that state's military.  He rejoined the Wyoming Army National Guard in May 2012 as a member of Detachment 53.
