Max Maxfield Says He Will Not Seek Another Term

Wyoming Secretary of State Max Maxfield said he will not seek another term in office.

Maxfield, a Republican, was first elected as Secretary of State in 2006 and was re-elected in 2010. Prior to that he served as State Auditor from 1999 to 2007.

Maxfield said the decision was the most difficult one of his life. He said while his love for public service is strong, it was time to focus on the number one priority in his life, his wife Gayla.

He said during his tenure the Secretary of State's Office has fought fraud, money laundering and shell corporations. He credited most of the success of the office to his staff. Maxfield said he is not leaving yet and will continue to work hard over the remainder of his term.

Governor Matt Mead said he was surprised by Maxfield's decision and added that Maxfield has been a great partner and mentor to him over the last three years.
